Broadway experienced a decline in box office numbers over the Labor Day holiday weekend, with most shows reporting decreased weekly grosses. The 27 productions on Broadway generated a total of $25,137,042, a drop of about 18% from the previous week when 28 shows were running. This figure is also down by approximately 11% compared to the same period last year. Total paid attendance for the week was 215,095, a 9% decrease from the prior week and a 4% dip year-over-year.

Despite the overall downward trend, a few productions managed to buck the trend. "Wicked" saw a slight increase of $104, bringing its total to $2,005,301, making it the second-highest grossing show after "Hamilton," which brought in $2,150,026.

"Art," a revival of Yasmina Reza's play starring Bobby Cannavale, James Corden, and Neil Patrick Harris, played its first full week of previews at the Music Box Theatre. Its gross jumped by $585,176 to $1,253,680, with 97% of seats filled. The show's opening night is scheduled for September 16.

"John Proctor Is the Villain" concluded its run at the Booth Theatre on a high note, reaching its best gross in months at $1,054,847, an increase of $216,487 from the previous week. This marked the first time the show hit the $1 million mark since original star Sadie Sink's final week in July. Chiara Aurelia has taken over the lead role since Sink's departure.

Other shows that posted gains included "Hadestown," which increased by $15,928 to $737,132, and "Jeff Ross: Take a Banana for the Ride," which rose by $3,047 to $140,622, though only 31% of seats at the Nederlander Theatre were occupied.

Five shows were sellouts: "Hamilton," "John Proctor Is the Villain," "Just In Time," "Oh, Mary!," and "Wicked." However, many other shows struggled with lower attendance. "Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club," which recently announced an early closing due to star Billy Porter's sepsis, saw only 68% capacity, with a weekly gross of $380,052, its lowest ever. Other shows with low attendance included "Chicago" (53%, $447,531), "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" (71%, $783,300), "Hell's Kitchen" (65%, $624,147), "Six: The Musical" (55%, $408,380), "Stranger Things: The First Shadow" (65%, $598,688), and "The Great Gatsby" (58%, $623,585).

Even strong shows that usually sell out or come close to it saw more empty seats than usual. "Buena Vista Social Club" had 88% capacity, "Mamma Mia!" 95%, "Operation Mincemeat" 83%, and "The Outsiders" 82%.

In the 15th week of the 2025-26 season, Broadway has grossed $516,458,393, a 7% increase over the same period last year, with total attendance of 4,057,680, up 6%.
